this photo was taken a couple of months ago at Mount Bromo which is located near Surabaya, the second largest city in Java, Indonesia. Bromo is still active along with Mount Semeru which you see in the back exploding.
I got up before sunrise to get up to the viewing point...it was REALLY cold. When I arrived there, there were literally thousands of people, and I felt frustrated as there was no place to set up my tripod and it was about 5 people thick from the edge of the viewing area. So, I did some climbing around to find a spot away from the other people, and found a small spot just below the viewing area...but there was a steep cliff dropping off very near to where I was sitting....a bit scary. I used my 10.5mm lens (fisheye) to capture this shot. I took it in RAW format, and then processed it in Photomatix (an HDR program) as an HDR from a single RAW file. Then moved into Photoshop where I did some exposure corrections and a curves adjustment to get the image as close as to what I remember seeing.
Bromo is amazing...a very unique place. If you ever get to Indonesia, it is really worth a visit...tough to get a bad photo from there...
Wow... exquisite... it dose not get much better than this... I think everyone who visits will be amazed at your pictures.. I know I have been since I stumbled in.
You must be a professional photographer. Holey Moley! How in the world did you do this? The rest of the photos on this page are amazing as well! What a beautiful part of the world you live in.
scotty, I am so glad you visited, or I may never have found your blog, and that would be a shame. Your photos are absolutley stunning! I am blown away by this volcano shot, but your others are also cool, especially some of the underwater ones. Thanks for sharing your beautiful part of the world (and BTW I am very impressed that you climbed the side of Mt Bromo with your daughter, it must have been a tough climb, but I bet the views were worth it.)
