Skywatch Friday - Virginia Beach

I don't think I have ever gone this long without making a post. I was in San Diego last week, and was unable to process any of my photos due to how busy I was while there. I am now back in Jakarta, and came home to NO INTERNET...arrrrgh....I miss America already. So, I am at work, and am able to finally get a new photo up on the blog...thanks for your patience!!

I have not participated in Skywatch Friday in a LONG time, so thought I would submit this photo from Virginia Beach...be sure to visit other outstanding skies from around the world HERE...

Have a great weekend!!

Working Late At Night

My daughter (and wife) loves puzzles. They will stay up until the wee hours of the morning working on a puzzle. My wife gave up and Kayla took over last night...way past her bed time. I couldn't resist grabbing a photo...

The Grist Mill

We had a wonderful road trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The drive was really pretty. I love road trips in the United States....the journey is almost as good as the destination. I tried to take as many back roads as possible, and the payoff was great as we had some amazing scenery driving through the foothills of Tennessee. We stayed at a really nice hotel just above the town of Gatlinburg, and had a great time wandering around, shopping, and taking long walks.

Military Aviation Museum

I visited the Military Aviation Museum today. It is a private collection of war planes from the first and second world wars...all planes in the museum are fully operational. I met the owner a couple of weeks ago. My buddy Max wants to recover a P-38 he found in the Papuan jungle...hopefully, I will help him with that project. What an amazing place and an amazing collection of aircraft!!

Cuttin' Up Some Fruit

It's been really, really hot here in Virginia...I didn't get out of the house today to take some photos because of the heat...I think it is actually cooler in Jakarta than it is here in Virginia...

Red Whip Coral

It looks like just plain brown weeds underwater, but put some light on it, and the bright red just pops out at you. I had to wait maybe 20 minutes till this small school of yellow tail snappers came close to the red whip coral to get this shot...patience sometimes pays off!

My Daily Walk

Summer vacation is just great. Everyday after dinner, we take a walk on this golf course behind my parent's house. The weather has been awesome, and it is so nice to take a walk outside...something we can rarely do in Jakarta...

Tires In The Yard

One thing I have noticed while being in the States the past couple of weeks is that there is a lack of nice textured walls like we have in Indonesia. I guess I need to go searching for some...but the neighborhoods that have all the cool textured walls are neighborhoods I think are not the best to walk around with an 8,000 dollar camera...ha ha...

A Week In The Turks and Caicos

Just returned (to Virginia) from a week's vacation in the Turks and Caicos. I did some diving, but it just did not compare to the diving I am used to in Indonesia. I didn't bring my underwater camera with me, so just got some family shots and a couple of beach shots (below).

I am not usually a big "resort" kind of guy, but since we were celebrating my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, the entire family decided to stay at the Beaches Resort! It was expensive, but everything was inclusive. We could eat and drink as much as we liked when we wanted. It felt weird to go into a restaurant, gorge ourselves with food and drink, and then walk away without paying a bill or leaving a tip...in the end, I really liked the resort type of vacation!!
