Pumping Water

Believe it or not, most of Indonesia still pumps the water they need daily by hand from wells. I have heard that ALL the water in Jakarta is contaminated...no surprise there...which means not only do they have to pump their water by hand, but they have to boil it as well...

Have a great weekend!!

I can't help thinking how much that bucket is going to weigh when it's full, and how difficult it will be to carry it.
When I was a teenager, we lived for a couple of years on the backside of a mountain in British Columbia. Our house was halfway up the hill, and the well was at the bottom. If we ran out of water when our parents weren't home with the car, we'd have to go down the path, prime the pump, fill up a gallon jug, and walk back up to the house.
It was great exercise (which we didn't realize at the time) and a good experience. Nothing like a reminder of hand-pumped water to jolt us back to reality in today's techno-world.
