Article On Steve Huff's Website

I can't believe I forgot to tell you guys about this...

A couple of weeks ago, Steve Huff published an article I wrote about the Leica M9. I had written a story soon after I purchased the M9, and this was a follow-up story about my first 16 months using the Leica. The article was well received, and it even sparked interest on the Leica Forums where one thread ended up being over three pages long. Most of the comments were about my style of photography and not about the article itself.

Leica users are a funny group of people. I would coin most of them to be more traditionalist who prefer no post-processing, and black n white images straight from the camera. Their Messiah is Henri Cartier Bresson, and images that stray from the "HCB Look" are not images worthy of a Leica. They have a diabolical hatred for anything HDR or anything even looking like HDR. They are the snobs of the Photographic world. Ok, I am kidding for the most part here...after all, I am a Leica user too. However, there is some truth to what I am saying here...and that was evident in some of the comments I received about my style of photography...

In any case, have a read if like, and let me know what you think...

Not sure all the Leica people disliked the article - I thought it was really one of the best on Steve Huff in a while -

Hey Gordon...didn't mean to suggest that all the Leica people disliked the article...but I did get the impression that most Leica shooters didn't like my style of photography or post processing...with exceptions, of course.

Have a good trip back to the States?

You're dead on about Leica snobs but they pale compared to Hasselbladians. I have used both (back in the film days). Loved Leica, hated Hasselblads.

Glad to hear your assessment of the D5100 as I am migrating in that direction (can't afford Leica full frame and don't want bulky DSLR full frames). I have a friend with a Nikon D7000 and he gets amazing results.

@Gordon...probably won't be diving again until this summer...my goal is to dive with the Great White Sharks off of Mexico for my 50th birthday...want to join me?

@MR.Charleston...I have heard rumors about the new Nikon D800...might want to wait for that camera to come out before jumping in on the D7000...

Fascinating article. I've learned a lot. It's the kind of stuff I can read: not packed with tech details that mean nothing to me but full of real life details. Very helpful.

Great article, and its a pity some of them were so rude about your work. HDR isn't to everyones taste but I didn't think their critique was very constructive, I think your images are stunning and I reckon some are just jealous. You photograph the people and life around you and see nothing boring in that.
