Classic Indonesia

The 40,000+ islands that make up Indonesia are sometimes called The Ring of Fire. There are volcanoes everywhere it seems. Believe it or not, I took this photo from a gas station...

A Foggy Morning at Borobudur

I am back from our short vacation in Central Java...

We had a great little trip to Tika's village near Solo, and then went to visit Tika's sister near Jogyajakarta. One of the main sites to visit in Jogya is the Borobudur...an ancient Budist temple built over a thousand years ago. With all the earth quakes and volcanos in the area, it is amazing it is still standing and is still in good shape.

I will be featuring (this week) a few photos I took last week around the Jogya area...

Skywatch Friday - The Beach

As far as I am concerned, there is nothing better than a nice beach with palm trees up against a perfect blue sky...

I am off on vacation so won't be able to visit your blogs this weekend...but sure hope you have a great weekend...

Thanks to Tom Wigley for hosting yet another week of SWF...

Octopus

I was on a night dive when I got this shot...

These guys are just incredible animals...As I slowly approached him to get a photo, in an instant, he changed the texture and color of his skin to match the reef around him.

Waiting For Something...

Not sure what it is about this photo I like, but I find it mesmerizing in some way...

The longer you look at it, the more details you find...

Inevitably, you might end up wondering what brought these folks together on the same steps to be lost in their own thoughts...and what ARE those thoughts??

Riding the Pink Elephant

Today, our first day of vacation, we went to the zoo with her best friend, Mariska, and they rode the pink elephant...pretty cute...

When it Rains it Pours

Good news always comes in clumps...ever notice that? (Unfortunately, bad news comes in clumps too)...today was good news for me though, and that is always worth sharing.

Today I found out that one of my photos was published in very nice book (and I also received a nice little payment for the photo as well). The book is about forestry in Indonesia, and one of my underwater photos was used...

I also found out today that a photo I took up at the Freeport Mine in Papua will be used in a book about mining and the environment...I will let you know more about that one when I hear more news...

Here is the cover of the Forestry book...

There is my photo on the left-hand page...

My other good news today is that my profile was featured in Jason Moore's Photoshop & Photography blogroll...if you are interested in learning more about me go to Jason's site and read my profile, and get a better look at my big bald head...

Also featured on Jason's site is fellow blogger, Troy, from Ramblings Around Texas...and I have seen Stacey's name on Jason's blog as well...Stacey from "A focus in the Wild" fame...

You can check out Jason's Blog HERE...

After A Day of Work

Ah, the life of an underwater photographer...

Instead of battling the traffic when going home from work, it sure is better to rise from the blue to a cold beer on the boat...

Sepia Vs. Color

I took this photo yesterday in our garden, and then did some post production work in Photoshop changing it to a sepia toned photo...but then couldn't decide which was better...the sepia toned photo or the orginal color photo...so, I posted both...what do you think??

Kayaking in Alaska

I remember handing my camera to my good buddy, John Holmes, to get this shot. It is always risky handing over a four thousand dollar camera over water from a kayak, but I think it was worth it to get this shot...

The Green Hills of Komodo

It's no wonder the famous Komodo Dragon is found on these islands...when cruising the smooth waters between them, you feel like you are going back in time...
