Sea Eagle Along The Zimbanzee

I was floating down the Zimbanzee River in Zimbabwe (sounds like something out of a Dr. Seuss book), and looked up into the trees and spotted this majestic Eagle...

The Wonder of Digital Photography

In some parts of Nepal, people have never seen themselves in a mirror....
So imagine the excitement of seeing yourself on the back of a camera for the first time...

That's me below (photo by my buddy, David White) being rushed by three kids to see their faces on the back of my camera after taking a shot of them...

Ornate Ghost Pipe Fish

I have been diving for over 25 years, and it wasn't until just a few years ago when I spotted my first Ghost Pipefish. These unusual, but beautiful fish are REALLY tough to find!
Once you find one, you won't soon forget the experience...

The power of nature is unreal...this damage was done by the 2004 Tsunami that hit Aceh...

The Eyes Have It

I was once told by an underwater photographer friend to always focus on the EYES of your subject...

Well, what do you do if there are 132 eyes?

My solution: make your photo ONE big EYE...

Skywatch Friday - Sunset in the Kampung

Well, there is not a great deal of sky showing, but what is showing is nice...and I think it compliments the rest of the photo well....

Lesser Bird of Paradise

Since I posted a bird photo earlier this week, I thought, "why not another?"

I only had to take a few hundred shots to get ONE good one....they were not very cooperative, and there were always either branches in the way, the wrong light, or they were looking the wrong way, or they were too far away....BUT, I got this shot, so I was happy. These beautiful birds are only found in Eastern Indonesia and Northern New Guinea.

Mike's Point

Don't be fooled by this photo...it was not as peaceful as it looks...the current on this dive at Mike's Point is usually raging strong...I had to practically tie myself down to get this photo...

A Misty Sunrise

Last month, we traveled down...actually East...to Central Java. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting the Borobudur at sunrise...

That is Mount Merapi steaming in the back ground. They were predicting a major eruption about a year ago, but it never happened...

How About These For Some Color??

Ok, I will admit it...I couldn't find a good photo to post today, and I was feeling lazy all afternoon...then, at about 4:00, the light was so nice in my back yard, I just had to grab my camera...
... and took a photo of these flowers right by our pool...

Moral of the story...if you don't have a photo, just go out in your yard and take one... Ha!

Skywatch Friday - Botswana

Tom and Jane have a new website now for Skywatch Friday...created by our blogging friend, Klaus...click on Tom Wigley's link to the right to view other skywatch photos...

My skywatch photo this week is from Botswana. A late afternoon thunder storm was brewing as these two elephants strolled along the banks of this small lake...

Have a great weekend!!

A Mountain of a Back Yard

At least you wouldn't have to mow the grass...but one would have to worry about avalanches...

African Bee-Eater

I am not really a bird photographer...mostly because I don't own the nice equipment needed to take good bird photos (I think most good bird photographers use at least a 400+ mm lens). I got lucky with this little guy. He was only about 5 feet from me when I took the photo. I do love birds, and really admire those folks out there that take great photos of birds...it is not easy.

By the way, I broke a record tonight making this post...

8 minutes to load my site...
19 minutes to sign-in to blogger...
21 minutes to upload a 150kb image...

TOTAL: 48 minutes to make a single blog entry

I am going crazy!!
If you live in Indonesia, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get IM2 as your ISP

Border of Zimbabwe and Zambia

To get to Zambia from Victoria Falls, one must cross this bridge. The border is in the middle of the bridge...a spectacular border crossing...

Skywatch Friday - Fishing Boat

*A note to my fellow Skywatch Friday Bloggers*

I would like to apologize in advance for not visiting your blogs...my internet connection is so slow, it took me 15 minutes to just upload this post. I really miss traveling around the world through your photos, and will get to your blogs as soon as I get my new ISP (they now say a month!! Arggggh!)

So, really, I am not a snob...I am just a nice guy with a bad internet connection...

Have a great weekend!!

Beach Bike

Sometimes the most unlikely of photos ends up being "not bad"...

I had just spent hours on this beach with my tripod taking a bunch of photos...while walking off the beach I had one photo left on my CF card, so I shot this bike, hand held, thinking I should probably just delete it.

Of course, when I got back home to my computer, none of the carefully planned photos with my tripod came out very well...but this one of the bike...well, I liked it.

Drift Wood

I debated whether to post the color version of this drift wood or the black and white...I liked the black and white...

Beach Wreck

There is something about a boat wreck or a ship wreck that is like a magnet to my camera...can't walk by one without a photo...

Skywatch Friday - Sunrise at Borobudur

We had to get up at 3:00 in the morning in order to drive to the Borobudur to catch the sunrise. It was well worth the lack of sleep...and the best thing about getting there early is that we pretty much had the entire temple to ourselves...a rare thing in Indonesia...

Happy Fourth of July to all you Americans out there!! Hope you have a great day of picnics, fireworks and juicy burgers on the grill...

My Family Blog

A couple of months ago, I started a "family blog" just for my family and close friends since this blog evolved more into a "photo blog".

Apparently, since the blog was password protected, nobody was reading my blog except for my Dad...

So, my "family blog" is now public. The link is the first link under family and friends or just

Prambanan

Prambanan is a Hindu temple built around the year 850. It took some major damage during the earthquake in 2006. The main temple is fenced off as it is dangerous to walk around...there is debris all around the temple.
