It looks like just plain brown weeds underwater, but put some light on it, and the bright red just pops out at you. I had to wait maybe 20 minutes till this small school of yellow tail snappers came close to the red whip coral to get this shot...patience sometimes pays off!

Oh wow, Scotty, this photo is a beauty!
I am looking forward to gazing underwater in January. We're going on a cruise from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, and each stop offers snorkeling! See how I did the first time I tried:
