As I boarded this small row boat, I couldn't help but think that this scene had changed little since the spice trade centuries ago...These large wooden Bugis Schooners still sail the waters between Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi...but instead of carying nutmeg and other spices, they now carry cement and the occasional illegal shipment of wood...

I check by all the time Scotty, just don't leave comments on every visit. I've shown your site to numerous others. It is my favorite photography site in the blogosphere. Pappy
Unbelievable! The detail, colors and depth! Fantastic, Scotty!
Cheers, Klaus
I love this photo. You capture so much detail
I'm wondering why transporting woood is illegal.
Fabulous picture. The colors are phenomenal, and I love the subject. So much character in that human being.
Thanks for the great comment. I am glad you enjoy where you are at. I have thought about teaching internationally, however, due to commitments here it is just not really a possibility, but I will keep you in mind if things here would develop in a way that would allow me to do so. Thanks. Also, great photo.
Very interesting. Cool photo.

what caught my attention was the very sharp colors of the pic. we have boats in philippines used for that too. although there are lots of modern boats now, still, its good to have those old boats too.
Great color and wonderful photo.
What illegal wood?
