The Tree

You gotta wonder sometimes what trees have seen in their lifetime. These trees were perched along a walkway on the hill overlooking the Colosseum in Rome. I have no idea how old they are, but they were BIG trees...

If you even want to find out the age of a tree the key bits of info are generally the diameter of the stem at chest height and species plus a couple of notes about its form and location or better still a picture. There will always be someone who can help you age it but the stem diameter and species are key.

If you don't know the exact species you need a leaf/ needle or bud sample or a good close up shot of them.

From the bark these look like pines but as you are in a different temperate zone may be something different and if they are pines you need more info to say which.

(Sorry if I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs and I hope that helps)
