Giraffe Coffee Break

In the middle of a deserted landscape in Namibia, there was this very small pond of water...These Giraffe were huddled around the pond getting into position for a drink. I guess it is no easy task to drink...they must have one hell of a pump to get that water up those long necks to their bodies...

Speaking of coffee, I had the pleasure of meeting Stuart Taylor of Highlander Images yesterday in Jakarta. Stuart has been following my blog for a couple of years, and we follow each other on Google+. Very cool to meet in person. We had a long talk about photography, blogging, Google+, software, HDR, and other fun topics. We may even team up for some fun photo excursions in the future. He is a long time resident of Asia like myself, and we think we would make great guides for photo excursions around Asia. Stay tuned...

Early Morning Grazing

This is the herd of Buffalo that the lion in yesterday's shot was near...such a peaceful scene in the early light of the day...

The Stare of The Lion

There was a large herd of Cape Buffalo near-by. We followed some lions hoping we could see them hunt the Buffalo, but the hunt never came. This female was checking things out in the high grass.

Flying Over Victoria Falls

Continuing with "the lost files" from my Africa trip a few years ago, here is one from the air over Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Zambia. We took off from a small float plane on the Zambezi River, made a couple of passes over the falls, and then landed back on the river...very cool!!

Africa Archive Number Four

Things are going well here in Papua. Had three great dives today. Tomorrow will be our last day of diving...boo hoo...We went to see the Mantas yesterday, but came up empty. We will give it another try tomorrow.

Here is another favorite Africa photo of mine of a Water Buck...

Africa Archive Number Three

It must be cool to be king of the jungle...these lions were just on a leisurely walk through the park...

Africa Archive Number Two

Another memorable experience in Africa...
This in Chobe National Park. There were tons of elephants, and this herd walked right in front of our safari jeep, and into the water to cross the river...

Africa Archive Number One

I am sitting on a very remote island in the center of Raja Ampat in Papua. Believe it or not, there is an internet connection here. I will be diving here for the next 5 days or so...trying to get some good underwater shots. I had three great dives today, but my camera was not working on the third dive...so far, I have not taken any shots that say, "wow"...but hopefully, that will change in the next couple of days!
So, since I don't have any editing capabilities out here, I brought with me some of my old shots from Africa that I will share this week. This is the first from the archives. I remember this day well, as it was one of my favorite days on my trip. My buddy and I waited till late afternoon to get on a float plane that took off on the river that leads to Victoria Falls. We then made a few passes over the falls, and then landed back on the river...it was amazing!!

An Elephant Walks Through Our Camp

We had just set up our camp site, and I had sat down to relax and read my book. A few minutes later, a large elephant appeared in the woods walking right towards our camp. The elephant walked right past us, rubbed his head against a tree, and then walked right through the camp site next to us forcing the people to jump into their cars. In the first photo, it is difficult to see how large the elephant really is...but in the second photo, you can see just how big that guy really was...whoa...what an experience!!

The Giraffe Looks

This was one of the biggest giraffe's I had ever seen...he was wandering alone along the river in Botswana...wow, what a sight to see...
