Talk About Crowded and HOT

I loved Italy...the food, the people, the history, the colors...but wow, the crowds of tourists were just about unbearable...and throw the heat into the equation, and what you end up with is a grumpy Scotty Graham. A typical scene in Rome...this at the Trevi Fountain...you can see just a bit of the fountain, but I was so amazed at the crowds, I just had to get a photo. For me to get a photo of the fountain, I had to stand on a chain and balance myself in order to get above the crowds...I am standing on the chain to get this photo too...guess I will just have to go back to Rome in the winter time to avoid the summer crowds...

OMG! I can't believe this. What a great photo, BUT,.....I thought we had a worldwide recession??? Italy must be making a killing in tourism! I was there back in the 70's, in late July/early August, and it was nothing like this (except hot with a water shortage in Rome). I'll not forget this scene and make sure to avoid Europe in the summer!

Believe it or not, Carolyn, most of the tourists were Americans...the value of the Euro was down against the dollar, so I am sure that was one reason Italy and Europe were so crowded. Other cities in Italy were not as crowded as Rome and Venice...we learned after a couple of days to get out super early, then relax inside somewhere until 7:00pm, then head out again...avoid the afternoons!!

I discovered you awesome blog site, and your great shots. I too have moved from a Nikon D700 to the M9, and I love it.
Is this shot done with HDR? I see a lot of photos like this, and often they have a lot of people in them, so i wonder how you free the action using HDR, if that is what this shot is. i like it very much.
